And the Anxiety sets in...

This morning it dawned on me that I am actually moving to JHB. In like, 14 days.

Had mini-heart attack. Downed a bottle of rescue remedy.

Am frikken scared:

Where will I live? Will I get hijacked? Do I remember how to cook? Who will do my washing? Where will I sit? (Don't have couch) etc etc etc

Deep breaths.

At least I only have 2 more days left at this sick organisation (Am not exaggerating - an organizational psychologist described this company in those exact words after a colleague described it to her - it seriously sucks ass).

Deep breaths.

lol you cpt okes think joburg is lank hectic. it's not that bad really :) been here most of my life, i keep a tazer in my car these days just in case, but other than that it's not so scary. there are loads of second hand furniture stores, recipes are freely available online and laundromats are relatively cheap. so think happy thoughts and clap your sparkly red shoes together and it'll feel like home in no time :)

haha, thanks lindsay, your advice is much appreciated! I don't know what it about JHB that scares us so much, but I guess that's what makes us Capetonians :)

Spose it depends on where in jhb you plan on moving to ... when I first came here many many moons ago for work and was staying with a friend who I knew from cpt we took a 'short cut' which halfway through I get informed is the quick way through Hillbrow ... little did my innocent mind realize that Hillbrow is the den of thieves, drug dealers and prostitutes by the dozen - even stopping your car at a robot is unheard of as you may not have a set of wheels left to drive off in ;) ... formula1 take a page out of these guys books ...

Of course when I moved up there a few years later ... older ... supposedly wiser ... yet still shit scared of the traffic and general 'speed' of joburg ...

Now I wouldnt change it for a thing ... I get annoyed in Cape Town with the lack of interest and quality of service ... in joburg if u not getting wot u want u just go somewhere else ... in cpt somewhere else may be like 3 hours drive away (yet still 3kms, but u know u have that mountain to frigging get past !!) ...

just remember 'arterials' ... and the 'ring road' around joburg ... so really finding your way around is easy once you get the hang of it ... the speed of the traffic can be quite daunting and the predominance of trucks on ANY road regardless of where it is ...

your first few months will feel strange but believe me ... once you comfortable its the best place to be ... and dont worry about bumping into your ex cause believe me there are so many places to go in joburg that the chances of bumping into him are small to none ...

Oh yea ... and whilst you may find LOADS of guy in joburg wearing tight little shirts that make them look like they play for the other team ... 'apparently' this is acceptable behaviour in heterosexual environments up here ... just remember that many of these guys pump so much iron and inject so many steriods that the brain matter left behind will struggle to string a sentence together ... ymmv

Thank God I have you, Grantus, for advice :) It seems that I have a lot to learn. I hope you don't mind if I bombard you with a number of questions at a later stage.
